Market Square

General information

With the economic upswing at the beginning of the 20th century, the marketplace was also redesigned. In 1912 the square was paved with granite. The townscape was thus upgraded.

Only two years later the pike fountain, financed entirely from donations, was inaugurated. The following inscription can be read:

Weck Lüd sünd klauk
Un weck sünd daesig
Un weck de sünd wat aewernäsig

Lat’t ehr spijöken
Kinnings lat’t
De Klock hett lürrt,
de Hekt is fat’t.

Translated from standard German:

Some people are smart and some people are stupid and some people are a little stuck-up. Let them do their jokes, let children, the bell has rung, the pike is caught.
